Hi Rob! I wasn't complaining at all about WPF. I think what WPF and XAML are trying to resolve (every technology arise to resolve previous problems) is good but I can't go into deep criticism (or praises) because I didn't actually studied them as you noticed. It was supposed to be a funny post, not a real critic :-)

Anyway I'm not gonna learn XAML or WPF because I'm not a Windows developer nor .NET's anymore but maybe one day if I'll happen to work with IronPython I'll definitely take a look at both of them.

Cheers!

XAML is simple an object instantiation language based on XML.
WPF is a class library.

If you chose, you can use the class library without having to use XAML at all. If your application wants:
* flexibility of control rending
* great data visualization
* printing of forms
* integration of media, ui, and documents in a single platform
* etc...
...you should learn about WPF(and maybe even XAML).

The Amazing XAML article discusses XAML being used without WPF...as a general way to instantiate trees of objects that are described in XML.
It is not trying to replace UML. It is an option that allows any data files, persisted to xml, to be easily loaded and manipulated.

Would love to continue the discussion...
Thanks,
Rob Relyea

Eh eh Joćo, mine was only a funny story. I couldn’t put it the way you’re saying. There’s no official endorsement or marketing pressure in XAML for architectures. It’s only an idea, maybe bizarre, but only an idea. We shall see.

OUCH! Storing the application architecture in somethiing other than the industry standard is really what one should expect from Microsoft. I mean, why use UML, right? Everyone else uses it, so they need to create something completely different and incompatible.
